Potjiekos Charity Fundraiser Competition

Come and join us for a day of fun, sun, live music and entertainment and help us raise funds for little Baby Sarah Paige McCabe who was born on 2nd January 2012 with a very rare condition called Lissencephaly (Abnormal Brain Development). Doctors say Sarah will need constant medical care and will never be able to lead a normal life.

All proceeds raised from the sales of the plates of food, FAXE Extra Strong Beer, Supermalt Non-Alcoholic Beverages will be donated to help raise funds for little Sarah’s medical care. Solsken Clothing will also be donating 10% of all their proceeds made on the day, as well as Playboy Magazine will also be donating the money raised from the sales of the Playboy Magazines on the day to the cause.

PLEASE NOTE: Contestants are to bring your won pot/s and your special ingredients for your potjie! 1 Bag of Fire wood and 1 bag of Charcoal and pack of firelighters per contestant will be provided free of charge. If you require more, you can buy it at the venue at cost price or if you prefer, you can also bring your own. Gas braai's are also welcome!

Competition starts at 12pm and runs until 6pm

Die CD bekendstelling vir Van Coke Kartel Wie’s Bang het my omtrent opgewonde gehad. Ons was te Boksburg Barcode nader geroep om die okasie te kom vier. Die aand was nog ‘n kleuter toe ek en my twee vriendinne daar arriveer. Ek het stadig rond geloer om die skare se gevoelens uit te pluis. Almal was woes besig om kiekies te neem en verseker dit vas te le in die geskiedenis van hul lewens. Die aanloop na Van Coke Kartel was Klein bietjie ondraglik omdat ek vreeslik graag net die eerse rif deur my ore wou laat bars.

Die eerste oukie wat gesing het, shame ek kan nie nou sy naam onthou nie. Hy het glad nie ‘n slegte stem gehad nie, maar ek kon my lag nie meer hou nie en wou net Van Coke he……

Die Tuin dwergies was soos in spanktastic en hulle het my baie aan Violent femmes in Afrikaans laat dink. Heehaa…. Ek sal se dit was die perfekte opkikkertjie vir die aand. Die skare het hul geniet en ek kon self nie help om saam te sing nie...... 'n Band om dop te hou.

Ek kon beslis nie my lag hou nie, al wat my rus vir my rustelose siel sou gee was Van Coke Kartel. Weet nie of dit my ongeduld was nie maar dit het way te lank gevat vir hulle om te begin, maar soos jou ma altyd vir jou gese het. "Goeie goed kom na die wat wag", dit was beslis presies wat ek nodig gehad het toe Van Coke Kartel Begin. Ek het my brein verloor in die land van kleure en drank, sonder om te dink aan die eiende van die wereld en dit het aangehou tot die son uitgekom het....toe weet ek dis nou of nooit :)

Elektriese onbeheerbare uitspraak is waaroor dit gaan. Mens kan nie help om saam te sing, saam te voel en vryheid te verklaar nie. Moet ons altyd stilbly oor als wat pla, kots en kou duer sagte stemme in ons voorhuise waar niemand hoor nie, wanneer gaan jy uitbasuim genoeg is nou genoeg. Ek het die skare dopgehou en dit is duidelik hoekom Van Coke Kartel ‘n Steweige volgenskap het, hulle praat met ‘n mens, elke liewe persoon verstaan dat hier word geskiedenis gemaak. Dit is ‘n beweging van vreesloosheid, praat uit, spoeg uit als wat verkeerd is, als waaroor jy stilbly.

The Curious Incident

O how we are surely in for a treat the South African Born, London bred band called The Curious Incident is coming back "home". We as South Africans like to claim all the talented ones for ourselves but this very talented band belongs to the universe, they are after all a mixed nationality band ;)

What we can expect when they hit our shores are nothing short of a heart pulsing, leopard skin, oozing full flavoured robust talent that will leave your stomach outside and your heart in Ecstasy. I for one hope to be at a show.

So now that I made you ache for more, when where and who you would say?
When will be December/ January
Where: You will have to keep an eye on their sites: I could not see it at the point of this post going out.
Who: Hello........ THE CURIOUS INCIDENT here in SA to BLOW YOUR MIND.
The band is made up of four very peculiar(in a good way) members:

Their sound is described as Afro/Latin/Rock, where else have you seen such a curious incident? ;)

Almost famous.

Bands, singers, artist and performers do not get up one morning and say today I am famous!

It takes allot of hard work and dedication, blood sweat and tears to get up that perfect morning and say I am famous.

Till then you will be almost famous.

Constant promotion of your art is needed, constant nagging in your face publicity is not always readily available. All I know is you have to walk the walk and talk the talk, be on everyone lips. Make sure the world knows about you. Don't sit in your room and mix your tapes (ok maybe not tapes but you get my scenario) and dream without action that someone will discover you. You need to get out there.
Mix your tapes, take your photographs, paint the world with your name, but most importantly tell everyone, everywhere about your music.

I came across Lizelle-Ferreiras-Promotions-and-Events her page is there to help without asking a cent.
She says that she will help with anything she can.
Now if one awesome girl out there is trying to make a differences I am sure there will be others too. So dig, search and make yourself known, if you don't you will always just be almost famous.

LOCAL MUSICIANS TO REACH OUT TO UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN AT CHARITY PERFORMANCE

Top South African artists will be gathering for a free charity performance in aid of raising awareness for Toys for Africa and Diabetes South Africa at Mall@Reds in Centurion, Gauteng on 3 December 2011.

The gig, that kicks off in the new piazza at 16h00, will be a part of a campaign whereby 5,000 toys will be handed out to various children from underprivileged children’s homes in the region.

Bands partaking in the event are:
Evolver One, one of South Africa’s premium rock bands having had huge local success with their hits Criminal and Get Up.
Jacques Terre’Blanche, a leading pop/ R&B singer with 7 Number One hits under his belt including a duet with international sensation Akon and more recently Do For Love.
Cameron Bruce, former 2009 Idols finalist who is wowing audiences with his chart-topping hit, I Didn’t Mean to Come Around.
Marcel Caroto, a fresh face in the world of South African pop, who launched his debut album earlier this year, available in all Look n Listens stores nationwide.
Esti, the first South African to have her song Blessed on the Ministry of Sound in England, with the song in the Top 3 of 5FM’s Top 40.
Bilo, who’s worked on various cruise liners and travelled all over Europe performing great classics and a few originals.

“I am very honoured to be performing alongside some of South Africa’s finest talent all in aid of a very worthy cause and hope that this will be the beginning of a long-standing relationship between our local talent and Toys For Africa,” said Marcel Caroto, who is one of the ambassadors for Toys For Africa, alongside Esti, Heinz Winkler and Matthew Booth.

Marcel has performed over 50 shows in aid of the cause and is currently working on a second album. He will be releasing a Christmas song with colleague Bilo on the day of the event which hopes to raise money for Toys for Africa.

“Our objective is to ultimately give 15 million toys to 15 million children across the world over the next decade,” said Danie van Loggerenberg, Founder of Toys for Africa, “Our charity, although very new, is starting to make an impact and we are incredibly grateful to companies, especially McCarthy Toyota Centurion, for making this day possible and the artists who have lent us their support right from the outset.”

I was thinking and debating internally about this post for a few days, I start then I stop. Why will writing be ever daunting to me you would ask? The answer is simple I am a huge fan of Van Coke Kartel, and what do you say about someone when they make you feel alive, no words can explain greatness. Being a person that never backs down from my fears, I will try and do them justice.

Everything about Van Coke Kartel is so meticulous, no wonder they are super stars.

If you watch any of their current music videos, everything fits perfectly together. The sound, movement and extreme intensity blends together to take your mind and senses on a Ecstasy explosion. (o dear can you sense the groupie a.k.a band aid ;) in me)

Their lyrics really burst out in full passion, maybe it hits me harder because I am a poet, maybe because I am Afrikaans. All I know is that there is no other band that can even remotely come close to them.

I think their nonchalant coolness also makes them so much more appealing. They do their thing, they tap into that intense animal nature we all possess but oppress, in fear of not being accepted. So for me they speak in ART , they release in passion and most importantly they inspire.

Arctic Jinn - makes me happy!

A fresh sound came through my PC speakers this morning from the electric talent of Arctic Jinn. I really did not expect such a great surprise this morning. Their sound is entirely new and groovy, it is sure to put a smile on your face. I now have the calmness and joy to get this day rocking.

I read that they are not signed up yet, and I know that their vibrant talent would appeal to a wide variety of the public. So they SHOULD be scooped up ASAP. We are the rainbow nation so I presume they took that knowledge and variety and came up with these really unique and funky tunes. Good on them and even better on us....ggrrr.... that they are sharing it with us. They must be discovered, and I hope that through my little contribution to the cyberspace world, someone somewhere go and click on their site and discover the fun loving attitude that blew me away today.

Saving Silence - History will be made.

You know for sure that the South African music industry is doing great when bands like Saving silence is a band we call our own.

Saving silence has an ever growing fan base and it is clear why. Their alternative sound with a pop twist that relies on the rock to export you to true awe. They definitely appeal to a broad audience. I saw on Facebook that they do between 4-8 shows a week, WHO DOES that??? That really shows their dedication to their art. As a South African I want to say I am so proud of Saving Silence.

They work hard, play hard and along the way they bring joy to thousands, I guess they cannot ask for anything more.(sure they can ask for more, but I know all their music dreams will come true)

They will be at Cool Runnings Benoni tonight so don't miss out on a little bit of History in the making.

The ever pending evil of xmas songs in shopping malls are upon us. I think all the shops get the same CD and fry our brains with it while we are trying to get gifts for our loved ones. Once you start singing along you know it is over and they have now made you into their puppet. ;) You will buy useless items like underwear and socks (ok not useless rather unwanted gifts). When you get home you will have loads of parcels and no more cash. It is a problem.

How to not let them into your brain.......I am not sure but.....

I am on a mission to find a xmas song that has elements of greatness. I am sure it is out there somewhere I just hope I find it before I start singing along, then I will too be lost for the festive season.

As a singer, songwriter and musician, 25 year old Jack Stone has been involved in the music industry for the past six years.

As musician he has been part of three bands (guitar and vocals) over the years, sharing the stage with some of South-Africa’s top acts.

Jack has recently, as a songwriter, written and composed several songs for two upcoming artists (Jacques Viviers and Sjanel) in the Afrikaans market as well as a song to be featured on an upcoming world peace album in which he sang alongside South-African legend and diva, Vicky Sampson. In this project he also had the privilege of working with local industry giants like Mike Horne (Flat Stanley, session drummer), Shaun Johannes (session bassist) and John Hassan (professional percussionist).

2011 marks the beginning of Jack’s solo career as a singer with the release of his debut E.P. The E.P will feature five original English songs written, recorded and mixed by Jack Stone through Purple Stain Productions of which he is a co-owner. Also included will be the music video for the first single titled ‘Grace’ (a Razorlight Films production). The E.P will be followed by a full album early 2012.

With his music Jack explores the future sounds of the past by adding his flavour to a mix of genre’s including mostly folk, country and rock.

Influences include the likes of Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, The Doors, Elvis, The Beatles, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin and LIFE.

Friday- The weekend before Halloween.....be afraid

When all creatures scary and fearsome come out to play, you do not have to hide away in your room under your bed. For Halloween is to be enjoyed so dress up and make all your dark dreams come true. *wink* *wink* Enjoy all the parties and all the dressing up but what ever you do be afraid be very afraid..... :)

I thought it well to to snoop around once again and find something delightfully scary. What I found was Freaken awesome beyond words, and they call themselves Mezzanine Floor. I was really taken a back and stopped everything I was doing to just listen and take in every little sound.

I do not think they can be put in a tidy little genre box, that would just do them a great injustice. The mix of hard rock and some metal is a treat you been waiting to unwrap for a long time, and while unwrapping it your heart pounds your breath away. The powerful voice of the the lead singer sends trilling chills down your spine. The bands instrumental technique is sure to please anyone who has a love for artistry. I am a new fan and so ecstatic that my ears had the pleasure of Mezzanine Floor this morning. GOOOOO BIG DUDES.

This weekend is a busy one with Halloween, Kings of Leon and loads of other stuff happening.

I came across Mirror on the SA MUSIC NEWS fan page. I always go back to the Mirror page to listen their songs.
Their music is sultry and soulful, it slowly creeps into your heart and mind and settles there, it is very addictive. It's a must listen so go over to Facebook
I had the great privilege to peak into their minds and their passions and I do believe that they will make it far.

Who and what Is Mirror?

‘Mirror’ formed unofficially about 2-3 years ago; Dan and Shane made it official when they joined us this year. What is so amazing with the members in ‘Mirror’, is that there is one influential factor, we all have passion for music and creating it.

Peter: All of us – we needed a name and I know how Stefania loves looking at her shoes in
the ‘Mirror’ so I suggested it (: Just kidding)

Daniel: Mirror is a collection a musicians and friends who have a love for the same music but love experimenting with new and fresh sounds. It’s a reflection of what we love and all our individual interests, hence the name ‘Mirror’.

What inspires each of you?
Stefania: Hearing and seeing that people are interested in what we have to say. That our music could change a persons’ mood or create an emotion within them. That is truly inspiring.
Peter: Music, great musicians & bands.
Daniel: A loving and responsive crowd. That’s what I love about music, I love playing it and get super happy if I can bring over great emotions in the audience while I do so.
Shane: Players that have devoted every part of their lives to music!

Who comes up with the lyrics and who finds the melody?
Stefania: We all play a part in the creative process. Song writing is effortless. We are constantly composing, there is always a guitar and djembe nearby for some spontaneous creativity.
Peter: We all do (which I think is the secret to writing great songs) as a band!
Daniel: We all work together. Someone will come in with a basic riff or vocal melody and we
all play a part in arranging and coming up with the rest of the parts.
Shane: We all take part and have fun creating music.

How long has the band been together?
Stefania: Around 3 years but I totally agree with Peter.
Peter: (Mirror started about 2-3 years ago) but the band only felt complete this year when Dan joined on lead guitar/vocals and Shane joined on bass.
Daniel: Mirror has been Stef and Pete's project for a while but since myself and Shane arrived, the sound has changed completely due to the new influences which is truly fresh and exciting.
Shane: I joined this year

What is the ultimate rush, musically?
Stefania: To play live, in front of thousands and thousands of fans just to hear and see ‘Mirror’.
Peter: Having hundreds of panties and bras thrown at you on stage, where at some point a bra hits you across the face and you have to play blinded until that song ends (: Whahahahahah, o my word that's really fun, would pay to see that :)
Daniel: Crowd singing along and cheering while you perform.
Shane: My ultimate rush would be, when a few musicians get together and just jam, creating something that everyone in the room smiles and taps their feet to :)

What does music mean to you?
Stefania: Music is a lifestyle, it is something that cannot be measured but felt within. It has the ability to capture the composer’s emotions, thoughts and soul which can live on through their music, even after they have left this world.
Peter: Music is medicine and one of the true pleasures in this world that can create a feeling of utopia/peace without drugs or substance.
Daniel: Music is my life. I love feeling inspired and creative. Creating something incredible that I am proud of and that people enjoy. Music is just my passion in every way, it's all I do.
Shane: Music is a whole other language that communicates with people in a different way
and brings everyone together.

Do you have any funny rituals before a performance?
Stefania: A quick meditation to quiet my mind and nerves.
Peter: I shine up my shades before I get behind the kit. I always play live with sun shades on.
Daniel: I go pee and wash my hands. Nothing worse than needing a pee on stage....!
Shane: No I’m pretty normal haha but find I tend to wipe my hands a lot and drink Monster.

Daniel: When we are the name on everyone's lips, the band in everyone's music players and sell out shows with great reviews. I think then we can start looking at the next best thing :) I don't think we can max out, we will always have something new to offer, and our best to beat!!!
Shane: When I have a wife in every country I tour in !!! That must be the ultimate, besides a life
time supply of Monster Energy Drinks. Love that stuff.

I am in a very rough mood today and all that will cheer me up is some dirty, nasty, scare your blood cold, heaviest of the heavy metal.

If you love Heavy metal you will have your Favorited bands. I have too many to mention and the list I am sure will continue to grow.

So I decided to look for a new heavy metal band that I do not know of and that is South African :)

I found a few awesome ones and one that kicks some serious ass call themselves Strident. They remind me of my uni days where metal was all that my mind and soul wanted. The music is deep and powerful beyond anything I can really put into words. The classic metal feel and sound, with a twist of epic space music as they would call it. The song I enjoyed most was Odin be our guide, I just love when a singer leaves your skin crawling and the music pound your heart right through your mouth.

I am such a sucker for a stunning well thought out album covers and their debut album -Oath makes you look twice. Don't you just love how the monsters are crawling closer in pure ecstasy, you are not quite sure if they will eat the main dude or make him a god..... I LIKE.

You know the feeling you get that leaves you cold and makes your stomach turn inside out. This is usually when something in your life goes terrible wrong. We all know this feeling, we all go through things that we know will impact our lives in dramatic ways.

I think a song that explains this perfectly and translate the feeling is Prime Circle- Turn me to stone. When the opening note makes its way through my radio I instantly feel it through my bones. They have captured that feeling, those horrible stories in one awesome song.

Live sometimes makes funny turns and we all have to deal with it. So listen to the song, pick yourself up and know it can only get better.

Growing up my parents played a variety of music, from Metal to classical (still struggle with classical I instantly fall asleep, hahahaha). Sometimes I love going down memory lane and just recalling the music in certain parts of my life. I have a non stop stream of sound through my brain and it's awesome.

A friends father was looking for Cry to me by the Staccatos...... O my word how I love the song. It was sung well before my birth, but I recall my dad singing along to them Cry to me when I was very small.
The Nostalgia really crept into my soul when I started talking to my dad about all the music we use to play in the house. We looked for the LP of the Staccatos and to our dismay it seemed to have been stolen or lost.... :(
My dad has a huge collection of old LP's, I don't think many of us have the privilege to listen to music on old school LP's the crackling as it goes through the songs makes me exited to have this in my life. Our fancy plasma is actually standing on a old School LP player passed from my aunt to my mom. So it's easy 60 years old :) My dad recently bought this fancy radio thingie that can convert everything into MP3's ( I know he is very exited that he can add it to memory stick and play it in the car) SOOOO awesome I say. I think his count on songs is standing at 4000, very impressive collection, all the Lp's are in mint condition.

My/Epic/Vice

My/Epic/Vice is taking the SA music scene by storm, their name is popping up everywhere, and with good reason. Their easy going Alternative/pop/rock/awesomeness makes you sing along in no time. They have been featured in various publications from People magazine to SA Music news blog ( *wink*wink*). I have been informed that they will also do a telephone interview with Entertainment Africa middle October. There is NO stopping them, and they do it without trying to be cool......because lets face it, if you are cool......you don't need to try.

My Interview with them really made me giggle and it's easy to see they are seriously in love with music, and having fun on their way to the top;)

We have all read the various publications so I tried not to repeat the obvious so without anymore rambling lets get close and o so personal with My/Epic/Vice.

What did you want to be when you where growing up?

Jeff: I Wanted to be Micheal Jackson, when I was 3 my friends called me "Jeff Jackson" at 15 I wanted to be Slash from GN'R that's when I was in my first band called Square Jaw (punk band).
Matthys: I wanted to be Like Elvis, the king of Rock and Roll. That or the big boss of a international corporation. Still working on both :)
Grant: In a Band!!!
Kerran: A Rockstar!!
JP: A dentist, A Computer games tester, A Family man, A Rockstar.

What are your Pet Peeves?

Jeff: Grant's always late, BUT when he is the first to rock up you never hear the end of it.....AAARRRGGGG.
Matthys: Uhhhmmmmmm....I have two fluffy cats called Fiona and Mia AND Grant Being late...hahahahaha.
Grant: Stalker fans, crazy industry people and Littering.
Kerran: Grant Always being Late ;)
JP: JP hates people who do not drive properly.

What was the Weirdest thing ever thrown on stage and did anyone keep it?

Jeff: Gran'st ex GF ( Whahahahahahaha)
Matthys: Nothing has been thrown at me, but I have gotten allot of booze from People loving the band!!
Grant: Once found a shoe on stage.
Kerran: The sole of a shoe....just the sole?????
JP: hmmmmmm things don't get thrown at me(JP), I am Chinese I think people are scared of me.....

What is the best compliment you guys received as a band?

Jeff: "You guys are so captivating" and just by the way it is not a compliment when they say " you sound just like....." hahahahaha :)
Matthys: That we are the sexiest collective of guys in a band. ( I Say oooooooohhhhhh being a girl with eyes....look and sound about right to me)
Grant: hmmmm.... Someone once told me that we were the reason that person played Guitar!!!!! Pretty rad.
JP: Um... We are tight, funny and that Asian dude in the band rocks out like tomorrow is his last day on earth...

What is the reason behind the Puppets in the Music Vid, a life worth living in the VIP?

Jeff: Was at the Aardklop in 2010 found this shop selling puppets thought they would look funny in the music Vid....big up to puppet.co.za you guys rock!!!
Matthys: Jeff found the puppets and told me he found the next stars for our Music Video.
Grant: Jeff said ages ago that we gotta do a video with puppets in the video.hehe....I was Like "REALLY" hehe. It turned out pretty cool though, big up to Jeff and Ampie Omo!

Who Loves the attention from the fans the most?

Jeff: JP and Myself.
Matthys: Jeff and JP, they love being told they are cool. Maybe that's why they like me too, Because I tell them that all the time....hahahahahaha.
Grant: Ahem, all I am saying is LSS!! LEAD SINGER Syndrome :)!
Kerran: JJJJJJJJJJPPPPPPPPPPP!
JP: I think all of us do except Kerran.

Do you have Groupies? Tell us about them;)?

Jeff: No only band aids, they make sure our ego's are happy by saying stuff like: " The guitar solo rocked my world" and " That beat was so sick I can't walk" You know cheerleader stuff. (Now tell me that's not the best explanation you have ever read...whahahahaha)
Matthys: I have one groupie...and that is The Shmute, my wife.
Grant and Kerran: NO comment!
JP: We don't have groupies, we have friends who like the band.

Where would your ultimate gig be?

Jeff: Opening a tour for The Mars Volta or Foo fighters.
Matthys: mmmm Ultimate gig would be Rock em Ring, or any other big festival :)
Grant: I reckon, I would dig to play a V-fest Main-stage or a download Main-stage!! That would be pretty cool, I first saw Billy Talent at Download and they were so amazing!
Kerran: Warped tour looks fun!
JP: In A Stadium or a huge Festival in front of 100 000 people!!

What Ritual do you guys have before each performance?

Jeff: Warm ups vocal number one, smoke a Kent special mild 20 min before the show, water lots of water. I only drink Jack when we start the show or at the end.
Matthys: Writing a Set list. For some reason we always create one right before we play. That and a rain dance, just for the fun of it!
Grant: Yeh, the latest Ritual seems to be all the guys coming up to me and saying dude!! YOU'RE here?? are you playing?? hehe, I travel allot.
JP: JP as a PSP...

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Jeff: People are my biggest inspiration, and seeing any band live, I just want to write songs after watching a good rock show.
Matthys: Everything I see and hear triggers creativity.
Grant: Honestly, I think we draw inspiration from each other. We all have very different personalities, but it seems to blend nicely when we write and play our music. This band is the most fun band I've ever been in.
JP: Life and the people around us. Oh and Star wars for JP.

Musically, who would you guys like to meet?( Be the person dead/alive)

Jeff: Slash, BB King and Robert Johnson.
Matthys: I would have loved to meet Elvis and Jimmy Hendrix.
Grant: Dave Grohl, Legend!

Do you consider yourself to be a rockstar?

Jeff: I am a Rockstar, Rockstars have shit loads of money!!!! Now I know ;)
Matthys: Not Really., But I get told that I am :)

JP: Nope, everyone should just stop trying to be cool or a rockstar and just have fun.

Lastly, What is the meaning of music to you guys, personally?

Jeff: Well, you write what you know...about your life the good, the bad etc. When you start making up shit it has no soul.
Matthys: Music is emotion set in sound.
Grant: Shoo, Heavy...umm Music is a way of communicating to people what sometimes you can't really say with just words..... Our music is quite personal to us, but somehow we've managed to make it accessible and personal to whoever is listening*I hope* but yeah... Music is our lives.

This week has been crazy as I am sure for many of you touching ground is not an option. I have loads of things to get through and I also decided that the blog need some TLC. I will change everything a few times before I get the desired look and feel, but please if you feel you need to tell me what you would like to see added or taken off, pop me a comment.

First issue at hand, South African Idols winner was Dave. O my word can I just say that I am as happy as a pig in mud. He really is a unique talent, he becomes part of the music and absolutely loose himself in every song he performs..... SO YAY for DAVE(yes I am openly bias, bite me ;). I just also want to mention the acts where soooooo good, The Parlitones, Liquid Deep, Lira, Elvis Blue, what more can a girl ask for.

Something that moves me and that popped up on my pc screen this week was Mazzy Star.

I adore Fade into you by Mazzy Star. I lived in London for a while and I was going through so much difficult stuff, like all of us do at some point in life. Fade into you was just a song that brought peace to me. The turmoil inside was somehow soothed by this stunning song. The song is not upbeat or uplifting, but it spoke to me and I was head over heels in love with Mazzy Star. (my point?? -getting there).

A close friend of mine's brother is very talented, he use to perform one man acoustic shows in the shower ( o Yes I remember how we giggled, but he was a HUGE dreamer, and rightly so). He has moved on from the shower to YouTube his dreams still as huge as his talent. He send me this link of him performing Fade into you, I nearly had heart failure it was softly stunning with the absolute underlying falling in love charm only his voice can convey. He did not know about my love for Fade into you, so it was a lovely blast from the past. (the video has a slight flicker in, just listen on.)

Last on the list is very exiting indeed. I did a e-mail interview with (wait for it)............. My/Epic/Vice.

There is something very profound about this song (the album is called Get busy living). We all forget that we are here to live and we go about our lives in a zombie state. We don't use what we have and we forget to live, we get stuck in the so called right thing to do and just stagnate. We all have amazing talents, this is what makes us all unique, but alas we rarely use them. It takes a very special individual to go out and build a life filled with their talents and passion. These two talented young men, showed there is no holding back if you just put your mind to it.
This song has a very funky beat and it makes you want to get up and shake the booty. Hmmmmm forces you to get up and get busy living....I like that.

Goldfish really live by their own rules, with their live electronic beats and instrumentals they have really taken the world by storm. They have played all over the world and I am sure this is only the start of a very long and awesome life. ;)
I am yet to see them live but I am sure it will happen eventually.

Mirriam Makeba was a South African Musical Icon she was born on the 4 March 1932 and passed away 10 November 2008. She left behind a legacy of greatness. Her nickname was Mama Africa, and for good reason she was a human activist and stood up against apartheid. She was a Grammy award winning artist and she is best known for her song Pata Pata (Touch touch).

I was very happy when I heard Milk and Sugar (German House music producer and record label owners) did a remix of this old classic. The original song does not really need any assistance nor revamp, it is well known by many across the world. It has a upbeat tempo and enchanting lyrics will make you sing along after only a little while. The Milk and Honey version is topping the charts here in South Africa for a few weeks now and for good reason, its fabulous. If you do not know the song I don't think you are African, so quickly follow the you tube video below. The original was a huge hit in America around 1967. Yes I was not born yet, but growing up the song was played in many houses.

Music has evolved, us as Africans evolved and I think blending languages, music and lives make us richer. I watched the South African Idols voting program last night it showed how great we are together. I loved HHP (Hip Hop Pantsula) and his blending of genres and languages it made me so proud and exited to be a South African. They kicked a$$.

Describe yourself to the world;

A talented young producer/songwriter who enjoys the smell of the air outside of the box. It is this unique train of thought that not only files me in a genre of my own, it seats me comfortably out of focus. It is no secret that beats and breaks, kicks, claps and rhythms has always and will always remain an everyday part of life, that
excites and provokes passion for all that is music. ‘For the Love’, the attitude embraced. ‘Music’, the medium used to express. ’Inspiration’, the foundation of an empire.

Well that sounds amazing, but what is the meaning of Regacy?

My whole M.O is to make everyday day better than the one before and ultimately leave it better for generations to come, in other words a legacy. This is the very meaning of Regacy. I always put it into context with a party, you could make it to the top, but what's the use of drinking champagne alone.

Describe your sound!

My sound has been described as a mix between Timberland and Lockenville. The main genres I work with is a blend of hip hop, r&b and has a dance influence, although I am not a fan of boundries and go with what ever mood I am in.

What do you write about?

Inspiration, love, life and money. I am an extremely self motivating person and this spills over onto the page. Making my dreams a reality is my goal, I am a dreamer. This is what I write about, however I do have those moments that call for not really thinking to deep and just go with it.

I heard you have a record deal in America, is this true?

This is more of a distribution deal that recently fell on my plate. I can see big things that are about to happen. I can't say to much at this point except watch this space, memorise this face. ;)

What would be the ultimate place for you to perform?

All my life I've been seeing these big stages where thousands come to see me and I would love to be on stage at places like the Madison square garden for example. I love to perform and if you give me a stage I'll give you the time of your life.

Who would you say is your musical idols and who has influenced you musically?

Growing up I idolised and studied an area of artists, eminem and his adaptive flow, 213 for their layed back delivery, but as I got into the production side I started to find out how deeply creative producers like Dr Dre and the neptunes are. There are so many and it was ever growing as I started to appreciate music. Basement jaxx,
outcast, the black eyed peas. I started to discover Nat king Cole, Earth wind and fire, but I have to say the artists that keeps on surprising me is Lil Wayne and Drake.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I have always pushed myself to be ever spontanious, and the code I live by is to always be better than yestersday. Five years from now is a mystery but one thing I can say for certain is that I will never slow down. I am hungry for life.

What inspires you most?

There is no better form of inspiration then self motivation, setting your sights on a goal and reaching it is the feeling that I'm addicted to and I don't plan on having an intervention anytime soon. Seeing people in all walks of life doing things and going places that has been deemed impossible it is so uplifting and that is what I feed off!!!

I am quite impressed with this young man's intelligence and knowledge of life. His Music is easy on the ear and his energy and commitment shines through.

I came across this band reading Facebook posts and following links. I am very happy I did because I would have not known about Acretongue if I wasn’t so nosy. They launching a new Album 28 October 2011, their Genre as per their FB page is Electronica / Industrial / Dark Ambient. I found some of their previous work online and the songs had a really calming effect on me. I was totally mesmerize.

What took my breath away was their new album cover, it seems like a hand with strelitzia flowers growing from it. It really is stunning I was in awe. The Strelitzia is a native plant to South Africa. It’s a very rugged plant it needs full sun and when moved from it’s original spot , blooming will only be after 5 years (it does not like to be disturbed). I do not know enough about Acretongue to say this might be their 5 year bloom album. I can say that their previous work is delicately amazing. So I do not see that this album will be any different. I want to know more about them.

I was told after commenting on the stunning cover that I must see the entire booklet and o dear now I am so curious. I love stunningly beautiful things and they definitely tickle my fancy.

They have converted me and I am definitely a new fan, they seem amazing and I cannot wait to see what the New Album- Strange Cargo has in store.

Groupies - or politically correct term "band aid"

The Urban Dictionary has two descriptions for Groupies the one I like best is:

"The individual, or group of individuals, involved in obsessive adoration of entertainers such as musicians, actors, athletes, and even political figures. Behaviors are juvenile and influenced oftentimes by crush-like emotions or lustful sentiments, and often infringe the rights of the figure experiencing the attentions of a frenzied fanatic."

When I was younger I secretly wanted to be a groupie, why? I am not so sure now. I just remember wanting to hit the road and follow a band everywhere and anywhere (I don't think I fully understood what it can entail). Now I cannot recall what band it was, so obviously I am over it ;).

I think the 70's seemed the perfect time to be a groupie, people wanted to break away from norms and just be free (onslaught of the 60's, woop woop). They wanted to stand up for who they believed in and totally divulge themselves in every part of that band/person. If you think about it that is really not a bad thing.

Groupies seem to have a great influence on the industry, some are like road wives others like mothers, there are many songs written about them. There are books written-I'm With The Band (1987), movies made -Almost Famous(2000) and a few famous groupies even influenced the media surrounding the band of their choice. There where bands that formed because they where groupies, how successful they are or where I will not be able to comment.

Like everything in life has it's place, groupies are no exception to this rule.

Love them or hate them, do you wanna be them?

Who would you want to be a groupie to?

Me right now, I think I will choose Disturbed.

KONGOS- I’m only joking

I struggled to get this song because I misheard the band name, and I was googling my little fingers to the bone and just could not find them.

Then I started to spell it differently and one of my horrific misspells led me to them……and I could hear the choir in my head go…..HHHHHAAAALLLLLEEEELUUUJAAAAA.

When I then ventured onto their website, I felt ashamed at getting their name so wrong. They have a section on their website of what their name should not be reduced to and I broke all those rules *drop my head in shame, how dare I*.

So their song- “I’m only joking”, is a very enchanting tune the drums lead you into a Trans like state, it leaves you wanting more. I saw the song the first time on TV to the power of *(5) and I could remember I stopped what I was doing and just stared.

Maybe that is the entire idea the rhythm hypnotise you into pure ecstasy.

Some areas sound like they are chanting and it makes your heart beat faster as the blood rush to your mind.

The end explodes into silence, and then you will want to play it again.

It is a song you must hear for yourself to understand the hypnosis behind it, so without any further babbling on my part. ENJOY.

Silence not so golden

Sorry I was absent for a few days, I thought I escaped winters Icy Nails, but she decided to hunt me down and beat me with a laryngitis stick. It was brutal.

So without any further delays here we go.

Song of the week - Punching in a dream by The Naked and famous.

The Song was suggested by Michael from Manchester.

I initially did not recognise the name of the band when he mentioned the song, so I was off to watch some YouTube.

The minute the song started I knew what it was, I do not recall hearing the band name before, because who will ever forget naked famous people?

“Punching in a dream” reminds me of those weird dreams you have that just seem endless and the deeper you venture into it, the more bizarre it becomes. The music video also has these random funny things happening (like in a dream), where masked dudes chase a girl, while she frantically cannot get away. Then the scary part where lifeless bodies lie on the beach and you wonder between them, scared confused and filled with panic.

The music strikes me as being happy, with the quirky beats and upbeat tempo. The singer’s voice rips right through your soul with rawness. When you listen closely the words tell a different story to the beat, it speaks of deeper things we all struggle with at times.

So for now that was my piece of cheese, I WILL BE BACK.

From next week Friday it will be Artistic Friday, where I will have an interview with a band or singer, music photographer, music journalist to name a few. I want to ask everyone in the industry all type of questions.

The first band will be Friday the 16^th of September they call themselves Spire. It was a e-mail interview, it will be interesting .

We are so lucky to have technology at our finger tips, we can be anywhere and know everything all the time.

On a different note , Good luck to the Springboks, Sunday, with their first world cup Rugby game.

Soundtrack to your life.

Every life event can have a song connected to it, or every song can have a life event connected. The backround music to life in my mind is very important, as creative souls we recall things better if there is something connect to it.

Here is how: If someone breaks up with you it would typically be “How do I live without you?” (Oh that is soooo cheezy) Or you break up with someone “Another one bites the dust, doh doh doh”(that’s a bit insensitiveJ).

When your favoured sport team win, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, OF THE WORLD!!!!!

The world cup of rugby starts tomorrow. I hope we make it through the first round or "hit the road jack and don’t you come back".

There are songs that express happiness, sadness, disappointment, excitement, fun.

Music can also influence your mood. I cannot drive to Disturb, I get so aggressive and my inner road rage demon just takes over. So that sound track is not a match made. I have tried to listen to classical when driving, thinking this will sooth the beast, but it was rather a lullaby and I swallowed the world yawning.

We make love to music (or we all know the Seether way ;), we dance, we pray, we cry, everything creating a specific memory. I do not quite understand people that say: "I do not really listen to music”. My question: “WHY?”. There must be at least something for everyone, so start creating your sound track.

I feel a music video can make or break a song, yes a bit over dramatic but that is how I am DRAMATIC.

You can love a song and then decide to watch the video and it can just ruin it for you. I do not think I want to highlight the negative aspects too much, I am sure everyone knows the fact of the matter.

So moving swiftly along.

Luckily through the years limits were pushed and film improved, creativity was embraced and there are more stunning videos than yukky ones. South African musicians also evolved and we are on par with world class entertainment. We will not stand back and see ourselves as an inferior movement, in fact our musicians are taking the world by storm. I think it is about time we save the earth from boredom.

It is said that the first ever music depicted with Image was in 1894 and the first ever music video was apparently Spooney Melodies filmed in 1930, these films where called shorts as their duration was 6 minutes. It featured Art- Deco style animation and backgrounds where combined with film and a performer singing. I do warn you if you are extremely tired do not follow the link below, fear immediate sleep activation....

That is the drama kicking in again, its not that boring so go on, check it out.

Tattoo my music.

Music is the ultimate expression and without sounding stereotypical, people who love rock/punk/goth/metal/country (didn't see that one coming) also love tattoo's. I have not come across many followers who do not have a small tattoo. So before I sound like a stereotypical snob, I have my very own tattoo from an artist. Rihanna has stars down her neck so I decided they will look good on me too......so there we go stars down my neck.

Tattoos are very personal and very expressive, everyone has their own reason to get tattooed. You just have to Google "music tattoo" and a world of skin art will amaze your senses. Only a person that has got a tattoo understands the addiction, expression and LOVE.

I think it must be the ultimate tribute to your favorite Band or Singer to tattoo anything related to them on your skin, its a permanent shrine (OK that sounds a bit like a super stalker in the making.). Let me rephrase, It a permanent tribute to the band/singer.

I saw on The doors facebook page, and it made me think about this post. A dude that tattooed their name on his forearm and they were so exited to post that up on their wall, and with good reason it looks awesome.

So go on get yourself a tattoo with meaning, combine Freedom (music) with Passion (tattoo), let people talk, let people stare. Because we are the people go out and make your body a shrine *wink* *wink*

There has always been something special about Flashrepublic; you just have to listen to one of their songs to know they stand out from the crowd. Their sounds haunt your mind and follow your lips, soon enough you are singing along. The song I adore for this week is off the Album: Killer Moves; the song is “In the Name of dance”. There is a reason it’s the albums opening tune, it sets you up for a listening feast.

“In the name of dance” is a song that perfectly explains how you should feel about dancing; it’s an expression of freedom. We should do everything in our power to dance, and the stuff we do is explainable, is validated, because we did it in the name of DANCE. The lyrics makes you think back at what you have done to just Dance, not even to mention what you will still do. It explains to those people that say youth is wasted on the young “they won’t be done until they had their fun”. The world can try and stop you but you will do what ever you want because you are “alive to live your life”. Life is there to live without regret without boundaries, so what will you do in the name of dance?

Their sound is described as “post-punk rock with Indie attitude” this becomes clear when you want to pump your fist in the air revolution style, while shaking your ass. Tamara Dey has a very distinct voice and there is no way you can deny her talent. The guitar leads you in with the drums suggesting to your heart that it needs to beat faster to keep up.

This song will really get you going, so on your way to a party/club/gig play it to get into the mood.

Hello blogging world, I am Drizel and will be the new resident blogger for SA Music news. The Newspaper and blog have been around for some time, but due to the growing popularity of the news paper the blog could not be updated as much as it should have been, That’s why I am here now.

I am planning some great posts, some fun and interaction with our readers. What makes me qualified to write to you about music? Nothing really. I, just like you, am a huge music fan, my first ever song was Diana Ross Heart Breaker, my first ever CD was Slave to the music by Twenty 4 Seven, oh dear I think I should stop sharing right now. Thank goodness my taste evolved and I am now like all of you following what makes my heart beat faster, gets my feet tapping and my head bobbing. I cannot sing to save my life, so all I have is complete and utter lust for music, it creates memories, recalls life and stirs passion beyond anything we can explain.

The plan of action is to blog everyday, there is so much we need to share. There will be set features on some days, other days we will just follow the music where ever it might lead us.
If you know of any band that would like to be in my weekly feature on Fridays, post their details and I will contact them. If you want to rant, rave, share with me, “Fan of the week” will be YOUR addiction to your favoured band.

South Africa’s first career solution for creative people has arrived

Creative Careers is the first job website that caters exclusively for the music, art, dance, entertainment, fashion and media industries. Following their online social media success in which they attracted more than 4,000 followers in only five months, the group feels confident that they will now, with the help of their website, be able to connect creative job seekers with recruiters in a more meaningful way.

Mr. Ismail Mohammed, the festival director of the National Arts Festival thanked the group for their vision, saying: “This is a much needed service for the arts sector and one that can only contribute to the growth of the sector.”

On their website job seekers can upload CV’s as well as pictures and sound clips, and they can register to receive matching job alerts via email. Recruiters will finally be able to advertise vacancies to a select group of professionals in the creative industries. There are interviews with industry professionals such as the director of Big Concerts and the manager of Nomfusi on their blog page, and the news pages contain current news surrounding South Africa’s creative sectors.

In November last year Creative Careers launched a national graphic design competition in search of a unique logo. The project attracted more than a hundred submissions and deciding on a winning logo proved to be a challenge: “We received a large number of beautiful designs that incorporated symbols from the music, entertainment and art worlds, but they didn’t manage to capture the essence of all of the creative sectors that we represent.

We therefore decided to go for a rather arbitrary concept in the end – cherries! They are cheerful and symbolise ‘juicy jobs’. Our logo is a memorable design that reflects our flag as well as all the different creative opportunities out there” says company director Marelize de Beurs.

The winner of the logo competition and creator of the cherry design, David Davidson from Davidson Design Solutions, has been involved in the designing of material for a good number of theatre productions and has a bit of a botanical bent with having received the President’s Most Creative Award from the Royal Horticultural Society in London: “I always begin with inspiration from nature, and have done numerous logos featuring fruits particularly, like lemons and strawberries because of their fresh appeal and succulence. They always have a ‘select’ or ‘choice’ feel about them.

To add to the excitement of the launch Creative Careers is also running a competition that will award the person who can spot the most glitches on their new website with R1000 kindly sponsored by Gearhouse SA - the premier supplier of presentation and event technical equipment in Africa.

For those of you that have not been to an Unrehearsed Music evening yet, it is hard to imagine that something so small, tjhat had started on a veranda in Hillcrest Natal 14 years ago, with 40 very brave friends in attendance, has now grown into this super event.

For last year's line up of musicians was made up of an ageing airline pilot, an electrician, a salesman, a gutter executive, some HILL BILLY TREE EXPERTS one of whom is presently right now in the top 8 of Idols Fame (JASON HARTMAN THE GRANDFATHER OF THE BUNCH) & a few

The Holy Moses/Veins Iced Over South African tour will run from 28th November 2009 - 19th December 2009.

The line-up consist of 3 international bands, Holy Moses, Veins Iced Over and Cage. Some of the South African bands featuring on the tour will be amongst the likes of Agro, Sacrifist, Selfmoord, Warthane, Hades Factor, Autumn Sun, The Vulcan Nerve Pinch, Only Forever, Scarlet Street Band, Runica, Witchazel, Chix With Stix, Juggernaut, Grindloc and many many more...

Please note: The final line-up for the tour will be determined by the fans voting for their favorite band/s.

The bands that you will be able to vote for will listed on the group and event info, each with their own voting code/number. Voting lines will open at the end of January 2009 and tickets will go on sale from the end of April 2009.

If you have never heard of Holy Moses, maybe Arch Enemy will ring a bell, well... The beautiful Sabina Classen started more than 20 years ago and she was the FIRST female thrash metal vocalist, and my God, does this lady have an incredible VOICE!!!

EXCLUSIVE PRESS RELEASE - SAXON/ICED EARTH-TOUR 2009

METAL LEGENDS ON CO-HEADLINING TOUR - Concerts to be accompanied by new press releases.

Titans among themselves: 1st February 2009 will see the launch of a four-week tour by the two metal legends, Saxon and Iced Earth in Paris. This sensational co-headlining package is certainly among the strongest of recent years and will take the two bands through countries such as France , Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxemburg, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Austria, Hungary and Italy.

Fans can look forward to dynamic power metal at its very best, especially since both groups will also present thoroughly exciting new releases to accompany the tour. Tickets for the concerts are available from ticketing agencies.

Saxon is considered to be one of the most charismatic acts of today’s metal business. Their latest album release, Into The Labyrinth, out on 12 January 2009 ( Germany : 9th January 2009 and US on the 13th of January) via Steamhammer/SPV proves that Saxon mark 2009 haven’t lost any of their expressiveness, enthusiasm and inspiration.

Along with numerous classics, vocalist Biff Byford & Co. will present the strongest tracks from their new album during the tour, expertly combining present and past. For Iced Earth, this will be the first full European tour since the return of their legendary frontman, Matt Barlow, who had been sorely missed by the group’s fans.

“I am really pleased Matt is back,” explains guitarist and songwriter Jon Schaffer. “We are spiritual brothers with a long, meaningful relationship behind us; Matt is the Iced Earth singer our fans want to hear.” The band will present their current album, The Crucible Of Man, and for mid-February Schaffer has also announced the release of a new DVD in top-quality design, featuring a sophisticated concept.

Remember the days when you were young and your parents used to throw house parties in the summer holidays?

The kids playing with hula hoops and Frisbees, gorging themselves on chocolates and sweets? The bratty boys kicking balls into the flower beds and spraying everyone with the hose-pipe?
The dogs stealing the chops or boerewors off the braai? Parents huddled around the fire talking politics or rugby, drinking cold beer and cocktails?

The Ice-Cream Man driving past with his delicious soft-serve cones to give you brain freeze? Girls giggling in the corner in their bikinis ready to splash in the pool or run through the sprinkler?

And as the evening progresses, your parents start embarrassing you by dancing with the dogs or singing out of tune? Don’t you miss those days?! Well we’re bringing them back! Good Old Fashioned Fun!

Four parties around the inland of South Africa to let you relive your suburban childhood. But with a few twists, a little improvement, and much less embarrassment! The Suburban Summer Parties are fantastic summer events moulded on your childhood but upgraded into fantastic, outrageous, cheesy fun days out!

Featuring plastic swimming pools, (2 venues have real pools) sprinklers, jumping castles, hula hoops, soft serve, braai foods, cocktail umbrellas, outdoor bars, Brutal Fruit Slush Puppies and sing-along songs. Bands, deejays, competitions, prizes and general mayhem!

The Rockford Deejays will make you dance (just as badly as your parents…) with their mix of classic 80’s and Top 40 hits!

Cutting Jade, Lonehill Estate and The Last Supper (Canada) will perform at all four Suburban Summer Parties, as well as a handful of other top national and local bands per venue.

Cutting Jade has just released their fourth album entitled, “From Nothing” from which they will perform songs live alongside their regular smash hit singles such as “10 Seconds”.

Lonehill Estate will perform songs from their new album “Hong Kong Dollar” songs as well as songs from their SAMA nominated debut album and some party tracks thrown in.

The Last Supper is a rock band from Canada. They have performed with artistes such as Our Lady Peace, Iron Maiden, KISS, Alanis Morrissette and many more and they are currently on a 100 country world tour as part of the “Band Without Borders” television documentary series.

The Last Supper will perform at all four Suburban Summer Parties and film the shows to be part of the television documentary. Make sure that you chuck on those bikinis and board-shorts and come along to show the world how beautiful South Africans are and just how hard we can party!

The Suburban Summer Parties are jam packed with free stuff, competitions, games and giveaways, starting the moment you walk through the door. Each Suburban Summer Party is limited to 1500 people only and the first 200 people through the door will each receive a Summer Alcho-Jello tot. (Over 18’s only.)

There will be competitions throughout the event including prizes for “Best Bum on the Beach”, “Miss Wet T-shirt”, and “Best Limbo Dancer”.
Spot prizes include The Ice-Dunk Challenge. Placing your hand inside a barrel of freezing cold ice to retrieve a numbered pebble, resulting in you winning an amazing spot prize, or a dreadful booby prize!

Visit The Party Pig Shop; a ‘beach’ kiosk raising money for the Charity Party Pig. The piggybank gathers money to buy musical equipment for select under privileged schools. Several items at the P.P. Shop are “sold” for donations.

Other items such as chocolates, chips and sweets are sold to raise money for the Pig. The Party Pig Shop also provides general services such as Sun Tan Spray and Tabard Spray for Charity Pig Donations. It will also stock our homemade, totally delicious and extremely lethal Summer Alcho-Jello tots!

Many companies have come on board to make these parties phenomenal and some of the stage throws, ice dunk prizes and spot prizes are donated by Lizzard Clothing, Dulce Café, Anri’s Beauty and Skin Care, EMI Music, SonyBMG, Durex, The Lucky Fish Music Festival, Superstar Party Hire, Jagermeister, and Playstation.
