Organisers of the hit international food and music festival, Delicious have pulled out all the stops to provide a star studded 2 day musical line-up featuring 5 celebrity chefs and 8 marquees headed by Grammy award winning super group Jamiroquai.

Supporting Jamiroquai will be a host of leading South African artists namely; LIRA, Prime Circle, Khuli Chana, Mi Casa, Danny K, Household Funk and BlackByrd; they have now been joined by Kabomo, Dj QB Smith, Dj Kenzero, Sai & Ribatone and Maleh at the lounge of the festival’s official beer sponsor, Castle Milk Stout.

Presented by DStv in association with Checkers, Ocean Basket, Castle Milk Stout; and Sowetan; Delicious has been described as the music festival for food lovers or a food festival for music lovers. The first of its kind, Delicious is set to take the South African entertainment and culinary world by storm in Johannesburg from 5 – 6 October 2013 at the Blue Hills Equestrian Estate.

At various times throughout the festival, top SA artists will be performing unplugged sets in the Castle Milk Stout space, allowing guests to soak up their smooth sounds, up-close-and–personal, while savouring a glass of the rich, full-flavoured Castle Milk Stout. Visitors may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an interview with one of the festival musicians or international chefs discussing their craft in the official media area at the Castle Milk Stout lounge.

Fresh from a mind-blowing performance at the Rock N Coke Festival in Istanbul, Jamiroquai arrive in South Africa having sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and a Grammy Award in 1998.

Jamiroquai are a band on fire - led by Jay Kay, one of the most charismatic frontmen Britain has ever produced, with a shelf-full of awards, including five MTV gongs to name a few. The band is currently recording their eighth studio album and promise to treat fans at Delicious to some of their newer, unreleased material.

LIRA has graced the covers of numerous fashion & lifestyle magazines & won a multitude of accolades from The South African Music Awards (10), MTV Africa Awards, Channel O Awards, Metro FM & MOJO Awards as well as Glamour Magazine South Africa's 2008 "Woman of the Year." LIRA is the first African artist to release a full HD DVD in Blu Ray (3x Platinum) and is the highest selling vocalist in South Africa.

Since they first burst out of Witbank some 11 years ago, Prime Circle’s career has been an inspiration that has spawned hundreds of garage bands across South Africa, with starry-eyed young rockers hoping that one day, they might make it big the way Ross Learmonth, Dirk Bisschoff, Marco Gomes, Neil Breytenbach and Dale Schnettler have. Prime Circle are undoubtedly rock superstars and have recently returned from an extensive European Tour where they shared the stage with 3 Doors Down.

Having recently released another trailblazing album, crowd favourites Mi Casa are a band with unique individuals, who bring their explosive talent together to create a unique and original sound. With a string of awards, the trio’s chemistry continues to blow crowds away with each performance, from one side of the globe to the other.

Hip Hop king Khuli Chana is a talented musician who practices the skill of rhyming in vernacular rap. He brings a different flavour and sound, not only to this type of music but also to the Hip-Hop scene; this has seen him walk away with three SAMA’s, Channel O Music Video Awards, Hype Music Awards and a South African Traditional Music Award (SATMA).

Singer, songwriter and actor Danny K needs little introduction. The four time SAMA winner has also picked up a string of fashion accolades for his impeccable dress sense.  He has two consecutive Kids Choice Awards, two consecutive People's Choice Awards, You magazine Award for Best SA Musician; and The South African STYLE Award.

Formed six years ago, HouseHold Funk (HHF) enjoys working with different artists and keeping their sets fresh. You can expect to hear the latest sounds /music from HHF, as well as their own original material which they continue to work on and push out every year.  They continue to entertain as a group on their own stage and alongside various international DJs/Artists locally and abroad.

Having spent the past three years earning their stripes and honing their skills, the dynamic young trio that is BlackByrd emphatically announced their arrival on the big stage with a stunning debut album which earned them 4 SAMA nominations in 2013.
‘Its Personal’, the brand that provides artists with a respectable platform to showcase their “sound” will host a deep house tent for the rhythmic and soulful attendees that would like to get their groove on at the festival.

Their line up for Saturday 5th October features Ricky H, Kyle Watson, Pimpsquad and JustSmart.  Sunday 6th October sees Brad S, Ryan Dent, Craig Massiv and JustSmart pump the beats from the decks.

Just to whet your appetite before the festival tune into Channel O, channel 320 to catch some of your local artist’s original African videos. About Jamiroquai
Jamiroquai are a British acid jazz band formed in 1992. Fronted by lead singer Jay Kay, Jamiroquai have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and won a Grammy Award in 1998. The line-up of the band has changed several times, and the longest serving and now core members of the band are lead singer and songwriter Jason "Jay" Kay and drummer Derrick McKenzie (since 1994).

Kay was the impetus behind the formation of Jamiroquai, deciding to form the band after an unsuccessful audition to become the singer of the Brand New Heavies. Although he has said that he has attempted to have Jamiroquai treated as a band, Kay has always been at the forefront.

International chefs release their mouth-watering menus

It’s every foodie’s dream to have a chef from a trendy European restaurant whip up a culinary masterpiece just for them and be able to browse through an eclectic artisan food market – which is exactly what awaits visitors to South Africa’s first Delicious Festival, taking place at the Blue Hills Equestrian Estate in Kyalami on 5 and 6 October 2013.

While celebrating South Africa’s finest culinary offerings, the event also features a strong cosmopolitan flavour: UK celebrity chefsAldo Zilli, Ed Baines and Michelin-starred John Burton Race will offer Gauteng food aficionados the chance to savour their exclusive signature dishes at pop-up restaurants, paired with South African wines and French champagne. (see notes to Editor for full menus)

Baines is the chef and co-owner of Randall & Aubin, the most happening champagne and oyster bar in London’s Soho district. The mouth-watering mains he will be preparing include rotolo of wild mushrooms filled with ricotta cheese, spinach, tomato and parmesan, as well as roasted shell-on crayfish with garlic cream, pommes pont neuf, wilted greens and a béarnaise sauce.

Zilli is chef consilere at San Carlo Cicchetti Restaurant, an upmarket Italian restaurant in Manchester and London’s Piccadilly. A familiar face on our television screens, he specialises in Italian, vegetarian and seafood cuisine. Zilli is presenting a delectable menu including pesce spada al salmoriglio (fresh kingklip, grilled Sicilian style) and tagliata di struzzo al rosemarino (ostrich fillet wrapped in rosemary and garlic).

Singapore-born Race is the chef at the John Burton Race Experience Restaurant at the Landmark Hotel in London, which proudly sports two coveted Michelin stars – his second restaurant to have earned this prestigious honour. Among the dishes he will be cooking is pan-fried fillet of farmed fresh kabeljou, topped with tempura prawns, as well as herb-crusted rack of lamb with soft lemon thyme polenta.

The chefs’ varied menus will be complemented by local wines such as Meerlust, Glen Carlou, Rustenburg, Haute Cabriere, Altydgedacht, Hartenberg, Kleine Zalze and La Motte, as well as Champagne Charles de Cazacnove.

Festival-goers can also shop for scrumptious goodies at the artisan food market, which boasts over 70 stalls. They canthen settle down with a picnic basket on the lawns of the picturesque estate, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, while being entertained by British acid jazz outfit Jamiroquai and a host of South African artists including Prime Circle, Khuli Chana, Lira, Danny K, MiCasa, BlackByrd and Household Funk.

This eclectic market will take visitors on a culinary adventure from Asia to Europe, from Africa to the Americas, with organic food a starring feature on the menu. Be amazed by the artistry of a classically-trained French pastry chef, enjoy high-quality Israeli and Greek street food, indulge in Belgian chocolates, sample healthy chickpea fudge and spice up your day with Mexican tacos and Mozambican peri-peri prawns.

The DStv Celebrity Chef Freestyle Cook-off will add a fun, interactive dimension to this food-lovers’ fiesta. Coco Reinharz, who was once a guest judge on MasterChef SA 2012 will man a cooking station flanked by screens projecting the audience’s real-time SMS suggestions on what ingredients to use and how to cook them, in order to bring a recipe to life.

The festival’s official beer partner, Castle Milk Stout, will be creating rich moments to be savoured, offering festival-goers the opportunity to be hosted by a chef who will guide them through a three-course beer and food pairing experience. The wonderfully complex flavours in the stout make it the perfect drink to unlock a wealth of flavours in various foods.
There will also be the opportunity to experience the limited-editionchocolate Castle Milk Stout, brewed exclusively for the festival, whilst taking in the smooth sounds of the unplugged artists’ performances.
Ocean Basket will host Sushi World Cup 2013 winner Pepi Anevski and local champ Sam Moima during the two-day festival, to showcase the seafood restaurant’s new sushi menu. Sushi will be presented in Ocean Basket’s first ever “sushi pop-up bar”. Festival-goers can watch Anevski and Moima at work while delighting in one of South Africa’s favourite foods. Perfect for picnic hampers or as an afternoon snack, the sushi fare is sure to be a festival favourite.

Lovers of out-of-this-world gastronomic experiences are urged to come and enjoy the ‘feastivities’ at one of the three international pop-up restaurants overlooking the grounds – Zilli’s San Carlo Cicchetti, Baines’ Randall & Aubin or Race’s The John Burton Race Experience – to be transported on a multiple-course odyssey through exquisite flavours, textures and combinations.

All the ingredients are sourced from Checkers, including their restaurant-quality extra-matured Steakhouse Classic Steaks, a wide range of award-winning cheeses and wines from the Checkers Wine Route.

At Checkers, they believe that there's more to cheese than just normal cheddar. That's why they make sure their Cheese World is always fully stocked with a wide range of award-winning international and local cheeses to choose from. They will be offering visitors the opportunity to taste and buy some of the delicious fine cheeses they have selected for the festival.
