Be in Cape Town to bid farewell to 2013 at Africa’s biggest, boldest, most thrilling free New Year party yet.

The countdown has begun, and as cities across the world prepare to showcase their regions with spectacular scenes of celebration, the V&A Waterfront will be more than ready to represent Cape Town and the African continent.

Get ready for the mother of all Mother City parties this New Year, when Cape Town's most popular destination, takes residents and visitors alike through to 2014 in a free, riotous explosion of color and festive celebration.

Although the official celebrations kick off at 18h00, the entire day will be filled with colorful activities as buskers interact with visitors throughout the property.

Prime Circle, Freshlyground, GoodLuck and comedians Rob van Vuuren and Martin Evans head a line up at the Waterfront’s popular New Year’s Eve celebrations, which also include street performances by Zip Zap Circus performers, 3D projections and spectacular light simulations as well as two fireworks displays.

From early evening, the Waterfront will be abuzz with non-stop free activities such as street performances by Zip Zap Circus performers who will astound and delight the crowds with their agility, as well as performances from live bands.

A custom built stage on Jetty 1 will host a number of performers. Through the use of 3D projection mapping technology and light simulation, the stage will become a form of entertainment in itself.

For those who prefer to be seated, the action on stage can also be viewed from different restaurants such as Harbour House, Quay Four, Alba Lounge and the Hildebrand.

The crowd can expect a heady experience of sight and sound as the MC leads them through to 2014. First on stage at 18h00 and injecting a light note to the evening, will be the comedian duo Rob van Vuuren and Martin Evans from Pants on Fire.

Next up at 18h30, is the band Early Hours, the winners of the V&A Waterfront’s Take the Stage talent contest will be first to perform, when they will show the audience exactly why they won the contest.

At 19h15, the dynamic and critically acclaimed urban-afro-pop group The Rudimentals will perform, they will hand over the stage to the ever popular South African band Freshly Ground at 20h40. At 21h00, the audience will get a taste of what’s in store for them at midnight with a ten-minute fireworks display.

Another highlight of the evening will be a live performance from 22h25 by premier local rock-pop band Prime Circle who will take the festivities through to the midnight countdown.

The V&A Waterfront has long provided arguably the best New Year celebration South Africa has to offer, and is undoubtedly the prettiest.

For 2014 they plan to raise the bar even higher.

While revellers will be framed by a star-lit African sky, an illuminated Table Mountain and the glittering city lights, at the stroke of midnight fireworks will erupt in a riot of colour, lighting up the Bay.

Cape Town music sensation, GoodLuck will then ensure that 2014 gets off to a cool start, taking the party through to 02h00.

Party-goers and spectators are advised to get to the V&A Waterfront as early as possible on New Year’s eve to avoid traffic congestion.

Getting to the V&A Waterfront has never been easier. The City is coming to the party by extending the MyCiti bus service to and from the V& A Waterfront until 01h00.

And for those revelers who would prefer to welcome in the dawn, the first bus of 2014 will run from 06h05am
