EDM Fest will undoubtedly be one of 2012’s most
impressive entertainment spectacles that is to become a fixture on the summer
calendar for years to come. The exciting EDM Fest will take place on the 15th
December at NASREC Expo Centre in Johannesburg and on 16th of December at the
Cape Town International Convention Center (CTICC).
Kingsize Entertainment bringing some of the world’s top
EDM DJs to thousands of South African electronic dance music lovers for one
united display of mind-blowing trance, progressive trance and live vocal
performances. The wheelchair friendly venue will be transformed into a first
class party location with ample bars and ATM machines inside the venue grounds.
VIP’s will enjoy a separate raised area, with exclusive bars and couches, overlooking
the main dance floor to take in the full view and revel in the electrifying experience
of what the night will bring.
Attendees can expect a number of internationally
acclaimed acts such as World #13 Gareth Emery; World #36 W&W; World #74
Lange; South Africa’s #1 Trance DJ Protoculture and Sarah Howells performing a
live vocal set. Ending the line-up will be local deck wizard DJ Kingsize making
this one of the best international Trance DJ events South Africa has seen to date!
Gareth Emery is consistently voted inside the DJ Mag Top
100 DJs Poll - peaking at Number 7 - with his burgeoning Garuda party, selling
out Manchester's legendary Sankeys four times in a row and spawning a
critically acclaimed compilation, The Sound Of Garuda. Building a musical brand
around his name in record shops, download stores, radio and club land has given
him an all-encompassing reputation in dance music that is rivaled by few.
Lange is recognised as one of the most influential dance
artists of the past decade - a DJ who has remained at the forefront of the
scene throughout his career, and a producer that continues to push all
boundaries. He is the producer behind an astonishing 20 UK top 40 hits, while
also being the talent responsible for the UK Top 10 trance anthem ‘Drifting Away’,
the classic SuReal–‘You Take My Breath Away’ and the remixer that brought
tracks such as DJ Sakin‘s ‘Protect Your Mind’, ‘Lost Witness’ and ‘Happiness
Happening’ to a mainstream global audience. These achievements have gained him
undiminished support from industry leaders such as Paul van Dyk, Sasha,
PaulOakenfold, Judge Jules and Pete Tong, and even an appearance on Top of the
Pops.
In just under five years, W&W solidified into one of
the freshest, most exciting electronic dance acts on the scene. From what
started as a chance meeting at the 2007 Trance Energy, has come a new multifarious
trance sound that, globally, has begun to shatter underground clubs, arenas and
festivals. Almost a year to the day since Willem and Ward first shook hands,
they quickly took up the spinning mantle. W&W’s ‘Arenas’ fast found the
CDJs of luminaries like Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz,
Sander Van Doorn & Judge Jules. W&W continued to produce singles such
as ‘Mainstage’, ‘Manhattan’, ‘Impact’, to name just a few, all of which have
rocked federation trance to its core.
The Cape Town-based DJ and producer, Protoculture went
from headlining festivals on the local psytrance scene each season, to living
on international rotation and playing to audiences upwards of 150 000 people.
His trademark uplifting sound has been played in all four corners of the globe,
with gigs taking him to super clubs and incredible festivals in London, Tokyo,
Sao Paulo, Moscow and everywhere in between. Diversifying his sound whilst
still flying the flag high for South Africa, Protoculture has accessed the next
realm of his career and carved himself a place on the electronic map with the
best of them – proudly home grown.
He has received much praise for his energetic and
emotional live shows, headlining at festivals like Glastonbury and Ministry of
Sound in the UK, Creamfields and XXXperience in Brazil, Earthcore Global Carnival
in Australia and Ageha in Japan. He has also played alongside artists such as
Paul van Dyk, Sasha, John 00 Flemming, Infected Mushroom, Orbital, June
Reactor, Sander van Door and most recently Armin van Buuren, who announced
that, “Everything he [Protoculture] touches turns to musical gold.”
Protoculture’s most recent collaborations with trance
producer Max Graham have been receiving incredible support. Their remix of the
classic track ‘It’s Not Over’ by Grace flew up the charts to the number 1
position on Beatport.
Sarah Howells is responsible for one of trances biggest
tunes of recent time, ‘Find Yourself’ with John O’Callaghan. Played by every DJ
worth their salt, from Armin to Tiesto to Van Dyk, the video has nearly hit 3
million views on YouTube and was remixed by everyone from Cosmic Gate to
Michael Woods.
Tracks across both of First State’s artist albums on
Blackhole including ‘Brave’, ‘Reverie’ and ‘Skies on Fire’ have seen Sarah
forge another regular collaboration and continued her impressive run of heavily
DJ supported and hugely popular releases. A more down tempo collaboration with
Dash Berlin featured on his last album once again highlights the high level of
producers keen to work with Sarah’s distinctive voice and memorable lyrics.
SA born, CPT based DJ Kingsize has spent the last 14
years playing at some of the biggest clubs across the globe. Having graced the
likes of Ministry of Sound (UK and India), Pacha (UK), Bed Supper Club
(Bangkok) and the world famous Full Moon Party (Ko Phangan Thailand), DJ
Kingsize captivates massive crowds with an energy and versatility that makes him
stand out as one of SA’s most successful DJs to date.
