Woodstock Festival History

The Woodstock Festival was a three-day concert (which rolled into a fourth day) was held on Max Yasgur's 600 acre dairy farm in Bethel, New York, and involved lots of sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll - plus a lot of mud. The Woodstock Music Festival of 1969 has become an icon of the 1960s hippie counterculture.

At a time when Americans were deeply divided, over 400,000 people from across the country gathered in the fields to celebrate "Three Days of Peace and Music” with legendary performances by Richie Havens, Sweetwater, The Grateful Dead, Creedance Clearwater Revival, The Who, Janis Joplin, Santana and many more, as well as unimaginable mud, and an unforgettable experiences helped the Woodstock Music and Art Fair become an iconic symbol of an entire generation. The organisers of the first ever Woodstock Festival were four young men, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Konrfeld, and Mike Lang, the oldest was only 27 years old at the time of the Woodstock Festival.

Woodstock South Africa 2012 will be held from Friday 31st August - Sunday 2nd September 2012 (venue to be confirmed soon).
