The Battle for Woodstock - Round 4

BFW 4 – Black Dahlia. 15.07.12

Well what can one say about music that you’ve heard before.... **YAWN**..
.
Apart from your cliché, from the get go, played everything that I have heard before and even find effort  to say anything... so rather I don’t. I believe that these boys will continue to disillusion themselves that they will make it in the music world, well maybe the drummer... They, in my eyes have nothing fresh to offer... only 3 friends.

Beseech the Enemy was the next band to play and I could swear I just heard a band just like them before, oh I did... just these guys are a tad heavier and have 8 more friends supporting them on this fucking freezing day.

I have heard them before and have written my thoughts prior and they are still the same... and with this said, I have said all I can. Best I leave this comment to those that understand, however I have to add that the guitar solo on the last song was enjoyable and impressive enough to make me stop what I was doing, look up and enjoy.

And then came Rhythm of Grace a Linkin Park meets Limp Bizkit band that are not excessively original, but are entertaining and have enough variety to maintain my attention, The lead vox has a good voice that needs to be utilised more and he needs to sing... My GOD if you have a voice, use it... My personal philosophy, that I adopted from my mother is; “if you have it, flaunt it”, because, fuck knows, you won’t have it for long.
This band has a hard rock feel that was dotted with melodic metal and perforated with spurts of punk.

Finally there was a band that had the talent to outlast the common trash that I have been subjected to, as Asylum the penultimate band to play tonight are a 4 piece that are over flowing with talent. Fuck me silly, the vox is not only candy for the eyes, but her keyboard is played to perfection, her voice has so much control and levels....

The band works well together, showing talent that is beyond the simple garage band, hoping for a break. There is genuine gift here and something I want to see go further that just a pub or mini concert, like an international tour. Given half a chance a I would arrange a tour to the States. They have an interesting arrangement and score that shouldn’t be confined to these shores. She has a stunning voice, very similar to that great Christian singer, Amy Grant.... In fact, I take that all back. These guys are one of the best bands I have ever had the privilege of listening to and each are equally gifted in their respective instrument.

Unfortunately the last band The Cavalier pitched, and although they were booked for this time, I said unfortunately because I was fucking wacked and starving all at the same time. But like every band before, they needed their time to shine and I gave it to them...

Thank fuck that they were not as bad as I thought they were going to be and sounded like they were  a hard rocking Blink 182, twisted with screams and melody... Intriguing even if I say so myself.....
Over and above the technical issues, they seemed to be having fun, went with the flow and enjoyed their own set.

Thanks for a good end to a long day.
