The Battle for Woodstock - Round 3

Battle for Woodstock "Part 3" - Boston Rock Lounge - Edenvale, Friday 13th July 12

Polar Dust opened the floor with a haunting operatic and very “Muse-y” intro. A trio made up of 2 girls and a boy producing an interesting mix... I am trying to think whether I love them or just like them.... A melodic beat, where you just wanna rock your head in a trance... Fuck it... I like them... sending the all too familiar tingle up my spine like my local stars Dementophobia, Scarlett Street and Sons of Signal....A Depeche Mode modelled band... nice combination, I just hope they can hold on to their rhythm along enough get to those starry heights they are reaching for.

I will certainly back them, but... my every faithful but; the drummer misses too many beats... and they need an electronics/keyboardist or even a percussionist, but NOT a backing track. For me it feels like they are missing a piece of an awesome band.

If ever I questioned as to why I am NOT a metal head, Touched by Nausea said it loud and clear... However, they do have a following and though the drummer was out, they still packed the floor, which means revenue, which means we use them despite personal preferences.

Johnny Stalker the second NON metal band that took the stage has a collage of sounds from Chillie Peppers  to Brad Cunning (local bar singer). Hard rocker that get my loves head bopping, which obviously makes me happy. A great band to get the party up a gear... recommend about 17h00 on the Friday afternoon at WOODSTOCK SA 2012 and these guys will get the entire grounds pumping.... Great vibe, just need to work on their harmony, but other than that their techniques and attitude, was... shall I say, rather catchy.

Die Young the last band to start are another 3 piece that are also missing something... oh yes... a drummer... the “Shakespeare Sister” type bassist from Polar Dust takes the reins with her lead guitar, bringing an Interesting late 80’s alternative sound to the salad of sound. Very subdued and easy startfor their opening number, however marred by out of sync backing drums and accompaniments later on. And then they took on a Billy Idol cover, White Wedding.... and .... and... shall I say, they should NOT do it. It was, um... I am a serious hater of covers, unless an improvement or a different interpretation is presented, and they did not do the aged legend any justice....  But, I looked forward to their next number as overall I can’t really fault them technically, but please don’t sing covers unless you own them.
