Passionate teacher born to lead singers to stellar heights

South African born Hlulani Hlangwane is a dynamic jazz artist possessing tremendous talent and vocal proficiency that have placed her on the same stage as American R&B singer Joe, The Spinners and our very own Hugh Masekela just to name a few. Hlulani has an educational history that reflects a level of discipline and passion that has propelled her from studying at the prestigious National School of the Arts to completing a Masters Degree in Music at UCT. It is refreshing to see that regardless of her successes, Hlulani remains level headed allowing the ubuntu rooted in her Tsonga tradition to shine through.

Honoured with the title of Best Vocalist of the Year by the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Band in 2008, it was the beginning of great things and the years that followed saw Hlulani touring Vietnam in 2009, Germany in 2010 and featuring at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz 2012.  With her current focus set on empowering other local talents, Hlulani has recently aligned herself with the Born to Be Famous Academy, where she is currently teaching a course called "Born To Sing", showing singers the ins and outs of achieving a sensational vocal performance on stage and in studio.

“Just as a mechanic maintains and is responsible for the up keep of their tools, singers should be educated on the importance of proper manipulation and training of their voices.  I believe that it’s time South Africa started taking itself seriously and acknowledging that it too possesses great talents destined for greatness!”, says Hlulani when asked about the Born To Sing workshop. "It is a great space and platform for like minded individuals who possess serious talent to come together on a weekly basis and grow together. They all work towards performing at the Born To Be Famous Showcase where they get the opportunity to perform in front of the movers and shakers of the music industry. Our biggest success story has been Nomfusi Gotyana, who was signed by Universal Music after her performance at one of our showcases. She will soon be singing the role of Miriam Makeba in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, the biggest film ever made on the African continent."
Hlulani's counter part in Cape Town is the award-winning actress and singer Michele Maxwell, who heads the Born To Sing course at the Waterfront Theatre School.

Born To Be Famous will soon be launching a new songwriting course with award-winning soul star and producer R.J. Benjamin. All courses start on 6 May 2013 for a period of 8 weeks. Singers looking to enroll at the Born To Be Famous Academy need to pass an assessment. Visitwww.borntobefamous.co.za to book an appointment or send an email to  info@borntobefamous.co.za or call Fiona on 0790839723. Successful candidates will start classes on 6 May 2013 for a period of 8 weeks after which they will get an opportunity to showcase their work and experience the glamour of stardom at the next Born to Sing Showcase presented in Joburg and Cape Town in July.
